About EACRDAA
Building Hope
Since 2020
From a small community initiative to a growing nonprofit organization empowering refugees, newcomers, immigrants, seniors, youth and families across Alberta.
From Community Initiative to Growing Movement
EACRDAA’s story is one of community, resilience, volunteerism and hope. What began as a small initiative has grown into an organization dedicated to creating opportunities, strengthening families and helping newcomers build meaningful lives in Alberta.
Our History
Our organization was founded in 2020 as the Turunbadu Self Help Association (TSHA) by a group of passionate community members committed to supporting refugees, newcomers and immigrant families in Edmonton.
As our work expanded, so did our vision. Through volunteer engagement, refugee sponsorship, settlement support, youth and women empowerment, and community development, the organization evolved to serve a broader population throughout Alberta.
In January 2026, we proudly became the East African Canadian Relief and Development Association of Alberta (EACRDAA), reflecting our expanded mission and commitment to building stronger and more inclusive communities.
Our Purpose
We believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to belong, participate, contribute and thrive.
Our work brings people together, connects communities with resources, and creates pathways toward greater independence and opportunity.
Together, we make a difference.
